    About the Katherine Region
    The Katherine region has an estimated population of 17,378 with more than half (57.2%) residing in Katherine, making it the third largest population centre in the Northern Territory.

    The township of Katherine is situated 320 kilometres south east of Darwin, at the junction of the Stuart and Victoria Highways, linking it to all mainland Australian states and capital cities. It has a diverse economic base with agriculture, mining, transport, retail trade, public administration and defence, business services, tourism and health all contributing to the economy of the region.

    The Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chamber of Commerce Northern Territory) Katherine office was established in the 1970's. The office is fully staffed and works with an elected executive committee to identify local issues and service Chamber of Commerce Northern Territory members in the region. The office acts as the region's voice for the business community on lobbying issues at local and Territory government levels.
